Luwice is from Karoi, Zimbabwe. His journey into the world of art began at a young age where he developed a passion that would shape his life’s work. Following his formal education, he found his way to the Chitungwiza Arts Culture Centre in 1997, where he immersed himself in all forms of artistic expression. Initially he crafted intricate animals from wire and delved into sculpting, then he ventured to Botswana and Namibia, where his sculptures came to life with cultural and regional influences.
Arriving in South Africa, he found a new home within the creative community of the Little Artists School. Here, he honed his skills and expanded his artistic repertoire, eventually gravitating to papier-mâché.
At the school Luwice draws on his experiences and growth, passing on his knowledge and wisdom by mentoring aspiring artists.
“I focus on environmental issues, and find ways to address pollution through the transformative power of art,” he says. “With a deep sense of responsibility, I seek to shed light on the living conditions and challenges faced by African communities, particularly those dwelling in settlements across the African landscape.”
